Preparing for the review of the EU ETS – Brainstorm session
September 4 @ 10:00 - 12:00
This meeting is under Chatham House Rules | No press
This Fall, ERCST will start a series of discussions on the future of this important policy instrument, starting with a first look at the role of the EU ETS within the 2030 Climate Target Plan on September 29.
This will be followed by a series of topical sessions throughout 2020 and 2021, aimed at discussing specific elements and issues related to the EU ETS, in preparation for the Commission’s proposal due in June 2021 and the subsequent negotiation process.
This initial brainstorm session is meant to bring together a small group of stakeholders to discuss a number of issues, including:
- the positive and negative elements of the current EU ETS design;
- the policy options that can address any identified flaws in the system;
- which policy options should (or shouldn’t) be considered in the upcoming (Inception) Impact Assessment for the EU ETS revision;
- the structure and elements to be discussed in the ERCST work stream ‘the Future of the EU ETS’.
ERCST will present its views, which will be followed by a few initial interventions and an open roundtable discussion with participants.
Participation in this meeting is by invitation only. If you wish to participate, please send an email to Domien Vangenechten at dvangenechten@ercst.org
