Border Carbon Adjustments – Conceptual Stakeholders Meeting on Alternatives
As the EU considers its most ambitious decarbonization targets yet under the European Green Deal, many consider a border carbon adjustment essential to sustain Europe’s continued leadership in a world of asymmetrical climate efforts. Technical and administrative details need to be resolved for such a policy to become reality, and that will be complex. In the workstream on ‘Border Carbon Adjustments in the EU’, ERCST will carefully analyse the options to consider when designing a BCA, with the objective of creating 2-3 BCA proposals that could be implemented at the EU level.
This is the third public meeting for ERCST’s workstream on ‘Border Carbon Adjustments in the EU’. The intention of these meetings is to facilitate discussion among a variety of stakeholders on the objectives, concerns, and options that should be considered when designing a BCA in the EU. This session will focus on the assessment of possible alternatives for BCAs, such as carbon contracts for difference (CfD) and a consumption charge (CC).
