In 2023, CCUS and carbon removal technology are gaining considerable momentum in the European Union thanks to the new legislative proposals developed by the European Commission, such as the Certification Framework for Carbon Removal and the Net-Zero Industry Act.

At the same time, at the CCUS Forum held in October 2022, the Commission announced the intention to prepare its strategy for developing and deploying this technology by the end of 2023. In this regard, the Commission has launched a public consultation to collect inputs from the general public and stakeholders on views and opinions on various CCS, CCU and Industrial Carbon Removals-related issues, including specific policy recommendations. The consultation can be found at this link (deadline: August, 31).  

The objective of this meeting was to discuss topics surrounding the Commission’s consultation ahead of ERCST’s submission.
