This paper evaluates the effort of the Joint Crediting Mechanism initiated by the Government of Japan to prepare for the new framework under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. Valuable lessons learned are presented on how bilateral cooperative approaches could be designed and implemented for fostering mitigation actions to the benefit of partnering countries.
