Stakeholders’ meeting – The Paths to Decarbonized and Sustainable Transport -outline of the second report

September 26 @ 15:00 - 17:00

This meeting is by invitation only. If you are interested in attending, please contact jmarullaz@ercst.org

Hybrid meeting, both in person and online. The in-person meeting will take place at ERCST offices (Rue Archimède 61, 1000 Brussels, Belgium).

The objective of the ERCST project is to analyze the current pathways emerging from EU policy for decarbonisation of heavy-duty road transportation and propose, if necessary and appropriate, complementary and/or alternative policy pathways. They will be underpinned by the EU objective of climate neutrality stemming from the EU Climate Law.

The first report set the ERCST analytical framework by looking at what influenced the determination of pathways for mobility decarbonization. We have conducted an analysis that identified the desired outcomes, outlined changes in the economic, political, and social environment, and determined new outcomes to be considered given current circumstances, as part of the efforts towards finding the best pathways for mobility decarbonization.

This event will serve as an opportunity to present the outline of the ERCST second report that will assess current legislative pathways to decarbonise heavy-duty transport and make recommendations for new pathways complementary and/or alternative to the existing ones.

The ERCST second report will look at key policy actions that can have an impact on the heavy-duty vehicles transport sector. In comparing different transport decarbonisation technologies, it will give, amongst others, thorough considerations to:

  • The cumulative reduction of CO2 emissions over time, to meet the decarbonisation trajectory established as an EU target.
  • The EU security of supply, including the dependence on imports from non-EU countries.
  • The contribution to the resilience of the EU economy, especially with regards to the capability to overcome unforeseen crises.
  • The societal impacts – on jobs, inclusivity, and affordability of mobility for citizens and businesses.

The main outcomes of the roundtable discussions will be considered in the final ERCST second report, which will be presented in a public event on 12th October 2023.
