Launch of the ‘Climate Policy Priorities for the Next European Commission’ Report

Ifo Institute and ERCST launched the initiative “Climate Policy Priorities for the Next European Commission” to identify and examine several issues that the EU institutions should consider as part of climate change policy developments after the 2024 elections (i.e., within the work of the new Commission).
On 22 June 2023, ERCST and CESifo Institute/EconPol hosted a first meeting in Brussels which allowed to preliminarily identify the core issues encompassed by this initiative. To provide intellectual leadership, ifo Institute and ERCST have convened thought leaders from across Europe to provide ongoing input to the initiative.
After carrying out individual interviews to the members of High-level Working Group on Climate Change Policy Priorities in the next EU Political Cycle, ifo Institute and ERCST organised stakeholder meetings in three EU Member State capitals (Berlin, Paris and Warsaw), during November 2023.
The output, which is envisaged in the form of two reports in 2024, will be under the responsibility of ifo Institute and ERCST.
ERCST and ifo will launch the 1st report focusing on a qualitative analysis.
