In December 2022, the European institutions reached a provisional agreement in the CBAM trilogues. The transitional phase of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism will start in October 2023, with actual implementation starting from 2026. The final details are yet to be concluded, after which both Parliament and Council need to formally adopt the CBAM.  In this roundtable, we will discuss the function of the CBAM in a portfolio of instruments for industrial decarbonisation, focusing on the role of additional support policies in an evolving global context. 

This roundtable discussion will bring together global experts in the areas of economics, law, and policy to assess existing proposals of how to treat non-pricing policies in the EU CBAM.
