The Role of Carbon Markets in the Paris Agreement: Mitigation and Development

This paper gives an overview of the market mechanisms under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement and discusses the rationale and approaches to how carbon markets can include sustainable economic development while supporting GHG emission reductions. In addition, the paper discusses safeguards when operationalising cooperative approaches including with regards to accounting.
