Rights, Carbon, Caution: Upholding Human Rights under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement

This report explores issues related the implementation of market-based mechanisms under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement and gives an overview of minimum requirements for those mechanisms to ensure human rights are upheld. The report identifies public participation, social and environmental safeguards, and grievance redress as core policy pillars that should be adopted by Parties. Good practices and policies are provided to inform the design and implementation of the three pillars in the Article 6 framework.
