This paper reviews UNFCCC documents, assessments of the first round of NDCs and Art 6 buyer documents to present a clear overview of how the conditionality of NDC targets may influence Article 6 cooperation in the context of Africa. In doing so, the paper proposes a typology for mapping the link between NDC conditionality and Article 6 carbon markets. At the same time, the paper also recognises that Article 6 eligibility cannot be determined based on NDC conditionality alone.
