This paper takes a look at the current status of ITMOs in the international climate negotiations on Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. It highlights the departure from the Kyoto Protocol era market mechanisms and arrives at a categorisation of potential Article 6 activities. Lastly, the paper analyses how North America is preparing for cooperative approaches under Article 6.
