This paper maps and examines different approaches for ensuring that cooperative approaches under Article 6.2 and 6.4 of the Paris Agreement facilitate increased ambition. The paper argues that ambition can be raised if participation in cooperative approaches results in lower global GHG emissions than would have occurred in the absence of participation. Finally the paper recommends to combine different approaches to make sure their participation can raise ambition.
