Reflection Note: Road Transport decarbonisation: innovative policy approaches for competitiveness and investment

Since January 2025 ERCST has extended the scope of its work to include transport, automotive and fuels policy, recognising the increasing importance and breadth of affected stakeholders.
ERCST has published its first Reflection paper: “Road transport decarbonization: innovative policy approaches for competitiveness and investment” which has been inspired and informed by extensive consultation across multiple industries.
The analysis explores how Europe’s road transport CO2 policies are not only missed opportunities for investment in across automotive materials, manufacturers and energy suppliers, but have also forced the export of competitiveness to outside the EU. A ground-up review could capture the investment potential and reverse the damage.
