Boosting Electrification to Help Decarbonize European Industry

Alongside the EU ETS review proposal in mid-July 2026, the European Commission will be issuing an Electrification Action Plan encompassing several legislative and non-legislative actions aimed at accelerating the electrification of the EU’s energy consumption. This is in recognition that electrification represents one of the key – albeit not the sole – decarbonization pathways.
This note:
- Provides reflections with respect to measures that could drive down the electricity-to-gas price ratio and incentivize industrial electrification and
- Highlights some of the interlinkages of these measures and the upcoming EU ETS review..
