Marco Sangiovanni

Policy Analyst

Marco is a Policy Analyst contributing to ERCST’s work on climate trade, with a specific focus on the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM). His interests span climate and trade policy, market-based instruments, and the role of economic and financial tools in supporting effective and just climate transitions.

Marco holds a Master’s degree in International Management from ESCP Business School and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Finance from Bocconi University. His academic background provides strong foundations in economics, finance, and business, developed through studies in Paris, London, Berlin, and as an exchange student at the University of Southern California (Los Angeles). His final graduate research examined the effects of the Next Generation EU (NGEU) programme on European fiscal integration.

Marco has a diverse professional background across investment banking, impact finance advisory, and policy-oriented economic analysis. He has worked on corporate finance and M&A transactions at Rothschild & Co. and Citibank, before moving into innovative and blended finance advisory. He has supported governments, NGOs, and investors on climate- and development-related finance initiatives across Europe, Africa, and South Asia.
