Wijnand Stoefs is a programme manager and researcher at ERCST. He joined ERCST at its inception, after having been one of the main actors that launched and developed the Carbon Market Forum at CEPS together with Andrei Marcu. He deals with climate change and sustainable transition at the European and international level. Specific topics include EU Emission Trading Scheme, long-term climate strategies, ETS-related state aid guidelines, Effort Sharing Regulation, Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, Sustainable Transition and Response measures.
Previously, he was a researcher at the CEPS Carbon Market Forum for over two years working on the same issues. He has previously also done internships at the European Commission’s Bureau of European Policy Advisors (dealing with reforms in the energy sector and service goods) and in the OECD Directorate for Science, Technology and Innovation.
Wijnand holds a Master of Science in Economics and an MSc in International and Comparative Politics from the University of Leuven. In his free time Wijnand has been active in NGOs both in Belgium and The Gambia where he was an advisor to the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and National Resources. He enjoys bringing together and supporting young change-makers working in the field of sustainable transition.
