SUMMARY:The EU's NDC after the Talanoa Dialogue
DESCRIPTION:ERCST and EUI are jointly working on a project which provides the opportunity for a public debate on the possibility of increasing the ambition of the EU climate policy in the 2030 perspective. In light of this project\, a discussion paper was written outlining the various options to enhance the EU NDC and a set of criteria was developed against which these different options can be judged.\nThis meeting is the first of six ‘Open Fora’ to be held in the EU Member States\, where stakeholders are given the opportunity to discuss the different options of increasing the EU NDC and the criteria to judge these options. A background paper on options and criteria to assess them will provide the input for debate.\nThe outputs of these Open Fora\, together with the discussion paper\, will be captured in a Policy Paper to be released on November 26 in Brussels\, just before COP 24 in Katowice.\n \nWorkshop Materials\nAgenda\nPresentation by ERCST & EUI on Options for enhancing the EU’s NDC for 2030\n \nRelated Events\nReaction to EU ETS Review ProposalSeptember 7 @ 15:00 - 17:00Modelling the EU ETS post 2030: Assumptions and Evidence WorkshopSeptember 8 @ 14:00 - 16:00Informal Dialogue on Article 6September 9 - September 11Launch Event: CBAM in an International ContextSeptember 15 @ 15:00 - 17:00A Vision for the Future of EU Carbon Market GovernanceSeptember 21 @ 14:30 - 16:00\nStakeholder Consultation on the Optimization of CBAM De Minimis ThresholdsSeptember 1 @ 15:00 - 17:00Review of EU ETS: Advisory Group Meeting on Reaction to EU ETS ProposalAugust 27 @ 15:00 - 17:00Stakeholder Meeting: Proposal for Permanent CBAM Exports SolutionJuly 27 @ 15:00 - 17:00

SUMMARY:Pre-COP Briefing
DESCRIPTION:During the 23rd Conference of the Parties (COP) of November 2017 in Bonn\, Parties had the aim to make significant progress on the development of the “Paris rulebook”.\nCOP24\, which will take place from 3-14 December 2018 in Katowice\, seeks to continue to work out and ultimately adopt a package of decisions ensuring the full implementation of the Paris Agreement. It will additionally include the Facilitative Dialogue intended to support the implementation of National commitments.\nProgress has been made during the last three years\, with some issues being at a more mature stage in negotiations than others\, but a lot of work remains to be done at COP 24 before a substantive rulebook can be agreed upon.\nDuring this meeting\, the discussion will focus on the EU’s position and ambition leading up to Katowice\, with a special focus on Article 6 and carbon markets. But also on what the expected or possible outcomes are of COP 24 (the Paris Rulebook) and the political phase of the Talanoa Dialogue.\n \nWorkshop Materials\nAgenda\n\n \nRelated Events\nReaction to EU ETS Review ProposalSeptember 7 @ 15:00 - 17:00Modelling the EU ETS post 2030: Assumptions and Evidence WorkshopSeptember 8 @ 14:00 - 16:00Informal Dialogue on Article 6September 9 - September 11Launch Event: CBAM in an International ContextSeptember 15 @ 15:00 - 17:00A Vision for the Future of EU Carbon Market GovernanceSeptember 21 @ 14:30 - 16:00\nStakeholder Consultation on the Optimization of CBAM De Minimis ThresholdsSeptember 1 @ 15:00 - 17:00Review of EU ETS: Advisory Group Meeting on Reaction to EU ETS ProposalAugust 27 @ 15:00 - 17:00Stakeholder Meeting: Proposal for Permanent CBAM Exports SolutionJuly 27 @ 15:00 - 17:00

SUMMARY:ICTSD & IETA Article 6 Business Dialogue
DESCRIPTION:ERCST and IETA held a joint workshop on Article 6 of the Paris Agreement in Glion\, back-to-back with the Informal Dialogue on Article 6\, organised by ICTSD. The workshop brought together IETA members and key UNFCCC market negotiators\, presenting a unique opportunity to discuss Article 6 priorities and share private sector experiences with international carbon markets.\nParticipants had the opportunity to participate in a discussion on why they view as the main issues related to Article 6.2 and 6.4. Business participants provided their views on what should be addressed at COP 24 in order for them to start exploring business opportunities related to the new emerging global carbon market under the Paris Agreement.\nThis meeting also provided the opportunity to share experiences from a number of ‘on-the-ground’ experiences which are closely related to how Article 6 may function in the future\, including the Japanese Joint Crediting Mechanism and the World Bank’s Mitigation Action Assessment Protocol.\n \nWorkshop materials\nAgenda\nPresentation by A. DESCRIPTION:ERCST and EUI would like to invite you to the launch of their policy paper ‘The EU’s NDC after the Talanoa Dialogue’\, held on October 25 at the Ministry of Environment of the Czech Republic. \nERCST and EUI have jointly been working on a project which provides the opportunity for a public debate on the possibility of increasing the ambition of the EU climate policy in the 2030 perspective.\nAs part of this project\, six ‘Open Fora’ are being organised in various EU Member States in the weeks leading up to COP24. Here\, local stakeholders are given the opportunity to discuss the different options of increasing the EU NDC and the criteria to assess them. A background paper developed by the project team serves as input for debate.\nAs final deliverable\, ERCST and EUI will present their policy paper on November 26 at the French Permanent Representation to the EU. This policy paper will outline the various options to enhance the EU NDC\,  which were assessed using a set of criteria developed by the project team and tested through surveys with key experts and stakeholders.  The outputs from these Open Fora are also captured in the Policy Paper.\nThis project has been made possible by the support from the governments of the Czech Republic\, Denmark\, Germany and France. \n \nWorkshop Material:\nAgenda\nERCST & EUI Presentation on options and criteria\n \nDownloads:\nTechnical Paper: the EU’s NDC after the Talanoa Dialogue\nPolicy Document:  EU NDC after the Talanoa Dialogue\n  \nRelated Events\nReaction to EU ETS Review ProposalSeptember 7 @ 15:00 - 17:00Modelling the EU ETS post 2030: Assumptions and Evidence WorkshopSeptember 8 @ 14:00 - 16:00Informal Dialogue on Article 6September 9 - September 11Launch Event: CBAM in an International ContextSeptember 15 @ 15:00 - 17:00A Vision for the Future of EU Carbon Market GovernanceSeptember 21 @ 14:30 - 16:00\nStakeholder Consultation on the Optimization of CBAM De Minimis ThresholdsSeptember 1 @ 15:00 - 17:00Review of EU ETS: Advisory Group Meeting on Reaction to EU ETS ProposalAugust 27 @ 15:00 - 17:00Stakeholder Meeting: Proposal for Permanent CBAM Exports SolutionJuly 27 @ 15:00 - 17:00
