SUMMARY:The ERCST CBAM Project Part II Inception Meeting
DESCRIPTION:This meeting is on the record | Press is invited \nAs part of the European Green Deal\, implementation of a BCA is once again being considered as a measure to address competitiveness concerns within the EU. According to the roadmap for the European Green Deal\, and European Council conclusions from July\, a proposal for a BCA for “selected sectors” will be released in 2021 and should be introduced by the end of 2022. \nThis meeting is the inception of the 2nd part of ERCST’s project on Border Carbon Adjustments in the EU. The first part culminated in a report published in September on the issues and options for introducing a BCA in the EU. \n \nDuring this meeting\, ERCST will outline the research activities\, as well as the methodology and the expected deliveries during this project\, which will last until the end of 2021.\nThe deliverables will include \n\nSectoral deep dive regarding the suitability of a BCA to address carbon leakage issues\,\nERCST proposal for a BCA in the EU\,\nAnalysis of the Commission’s proposal expected in June 2021\nA framework of different policy measures and tools to address carbon leakage.\n\nWorkshop materials\nDraft Agenda\nProject Presentation \nRegistration \n\nUpcoming Events\nStakeholder Consultation: CBAM in an International ContextApril 22 @ 15:00 - 17:00Launch Event – 2026 ETS ReviewApril 23 @ 10:00 - 12:00Launch Event – Carbon Leakage under CBAM and Free AllocationMay 13 @ 10:30 - 12:302026 State of ETS – LaunchMay 20 @ 15:00 - 16:30International Townhall: CBAM in an International ContextJune 23 @ 14:30 - 16:30\n\nPast Events\n2026 Review of EU ETS – Stakeholder meetingApril 1 @ 15:00 - 17:00Launch Event – Policy options for sustainable mobility: the road to decarbonizationApril 1 @ 10:00 - 12:00Quo Vadis ETS: Challenges and SolutionsMarch 23 @ 16:00 - 18:00

SUMMARY:Preparing for the review of the EU ETS - dealing with supply-demand imbalance and review of the MSR
DESCRIPTION:This meeting is part of a series of webinars\, by-invitation only\, which are part of ERCST’s work stream on the revision of the EU Emission Trading System under the European Green Deal. Our aim is to bring together a group of stakeholders on a regular basis to discuss the most important issues on the table for the EU ETS revision. \n\nThis meeting will focus on how the EU ETS review should address policy overlap\, supply-demand imbalances and approach the mandated review of the Market Stability Reserve. It will address questions such as: \n\nWhat is the outlook on the supply and demand of allowances in the market over the next decade?\nHow should the Market Stability Reserve to be reviewed\, and its appropriateness be assessed?\nWhat other tools can be considered? e.g.\n\nvoluntary/mandatory cancellation of allowances;\nprice-based tools such as a price floor\, a price corridor\, or a central carbon bank;\ngovernance arrangements.\n\n\n\nThis webinar will start with presentations by ERCST and invited speakers\, followed by a discussion between stakeholders in roundtable setting.\n \n\n \n\nParticipation in this meeting is by invitation only. If you wish to participate\, please send an email to Domien Vangenechten at dvangenechten@ercst.org \nThis meeting is under Chatham House Rules | No press is invited \n \nWorkshop Material(s)\nAgenda\nERCST presentation \nPresentation by Michael Pahle\, PIK-Potsdam\nPresentation by Hæge Fjellheim\, Refinitiv \n2020 State of the EU ETS Report\nReport – Preparing the review of the MSR\nBriefing – The MSR: coping with COVID-19 and preparing for the review \n \nUpcoming Events\nStakeholder Consultation: CBAM in an International ContextApril 22 @ 15:00 - 17:00Launch Event – 2026 ETS ReviewApril 23 @ 10:00 - 12:00Launch Event – Carbon Leakage under CBAM and Free AllocationMay 13 @ 10:30 - 12:302026 State of ETS – LaunchMay 20 @ 15:00 - 16:30International Townhall: CBAM in an International ContextJune 23 @ 14:30 - 16:30\n\n \nPast Events\n2026 Review of EU ETS – Stakeholder meetingApril 1 @ 15:00 - 17:00Launch Event – Policy options for sustainable mobility: the road to decarbonizationApril 1 @ 10:00 - 12:00Quo Vadis ETS: Challenges and SolutionsMarch 23 @ 16:00 - 18:00\n
