SUMMARY:The role of the EU ETS funding mechanisms in delivering the European Green Deal
DESCRIPTION:This meeting is under Chatham House Rules  \nThe EU ETS ‘funding mechanisms’ are an important element of the fourth fase (2021-2030) of the EU ETS\, and will be a key financing tool to deliver upon the European Green Deal and updated 2030 climate targets. These funding mechanisms have been operationalised over the last few years – the Innovation Fund launched its first call for proposals in June 2020\, while the Modernisation Fund\, for which the Implementing Act was adopted on 2 July 2020\, is to be operationalised at Member State level.\nERCST and CEEP have together been working on this topic for the last few years\, organising workshops in Brussels and beneficiary Member States to facilitate a debate on how to successfully operationalise and utilise these funds\, and deepen the understanding of the regional financing needs and priorities. Several papers were published to update stakeholders on the implementation process and raise issues for discussion and clarification.\nDuring this meeting\, we will discuss the ‘state of play’ of the funding mechanisms and their operationalisation\, including how the beneficiary Member States intend to use the Modernisation Fund.
