SUMMARY:Preparing for the review of the EU ETS - Brainstorm session
DESCRIPTION:This meeting is under Chatham House Rules | No press \n\n\n\n\nThe EU ETS has long been considered one of the cornerstones of the EU’s climate policy. While it has been faced by many issues\, the ETS has increasingly proven to be ‘fit for purpose’ in recent years. Today\, the EU ETS stands at the dawn of a new revision process\, which will have to ensure that it helps delivering on the European Green Deal in an economically efficient way.\nThis Fall\, ERCST will start a series of discussions on the future of this important policy instrument\, starting with a first look at the role of the EU ETS within the 2030 Climate Target Plan on September 29.\nThis will be followed by a series of topical sessions throughout 2020 and 2021\, aimed at discussing specific elements and issues related to the EU ETS\, in preparation for the Commission’s proposal due in June 2021 and the subsequent negotiation process.\nThis initial brainstorm session is meant to bring together a small group of stakeholders to discuss a number of issues\, including: \n\nthe positive and negative elements of the current EU ETS design;\nthe policy options that can address any identified flaws in the system;\nwhich policy options should (or shouldn’t) be considered in the upcoming (Inception) Impact Assessment for the EU ETS revision;\nthe structure and elements to be discussed in the ERCST work stream ‘the Future of the EU ETS’.\n\nERCST will present its views\, which will be followed by a few initial interventions and an open roundtable discussion with participants.\n \n \n\n\n\nParticipation in this meeting is by invitation only. SUMMARY:Stakeholders' Views on the Public Consultation for the Energy Taxation Directive
DESCRIPTION:This meeting is under Chatham House Rules | No press is invited \nAs part of the policy updates foreseen under the European Green Deal\, the Commission will propose a revision of the Energy Taxation Directive\, with the stated main objectives to: \n\naligning taxation of energy products and electricity with EU energy and climate policies\, to contribute to the EU 2030 energy targets and climate neutrality by 2050;\npreserving the EU single market by updating the scope and the structure of tax rates\, and rationalising the use of optional tax exemptions and reductions.\n\nOn May 27\, ERCST organised a webinar to discuss stakeholders’ views on the submissions to the Inception Impact Assessment for the revision of the Energy Taxation Directive. This meeting intends to bring the discussion forward\, by allowing stakeholders to exchange views on the public consultation\, which is expected to be published by the Commission over summer.\n  \nRegistration Link \n \nWorkshop Material(s)\nAgenda\nPresentation by ERCST\nPresentation by European Community Shipowners’ Association\n \nUpcoming Events\nStakeholder Consultation: CBAM in an International ContextApril 22 @ 15:00 - 17:00Launch Event – 2026 ETS ReviewApril 23 @ 10:00 - 12:00Launch Event – Carbon Leakage under CBAM and Free AllocationMay 13 @ 10:30 - 12:302026 State of ETS – LaunchMay 20 @ 15:00 - 16:30International Townhall: CBAM in an International ContextJune 23 @ 14:30 - 16:30\n\n \nPast Events\n2026 Review of EU ETS – Stakeholder meetingApril 1 @ 15:00 - 17:00Launch Event – Policy options for sustainable mobility: the road to decarbonizationApril 1 @ 10:00 - 12:00Quo Vadis ETS: Challenges and SolutionsMarch 23 @ 16:00 - 18:00\n

SUMMARY:The European Green Deal: State of Play
DESCRIPTION:This meeting is under Chatham House Rules | No press \nThis meeting is part of a continuous series of meetings organised by ERCST on the European Green Deal. This work stream aims to bring together policymakers and stakeholders on a regular basis to take stock on recent developments\, look ahead to what is in the pipeline\, and discuss the general implementation of the EGD framework.\nThe European Green Deal can be seen as a collection of priorities\, principles and areas where legislative proposals will be produced in the coming years. While the full scope of the EGD is not yet clear\, and many of the policy choices will only be decided upon at a later stage\, a number of policy initiatives have already been unveiled or kicked off in recent months.\nEach of these session will focus on the recent high-level policy developments under the European Green Deal\, and the ‘general sentiment’ of stakeholders on the direction and implementation of the EGD. Policy issues that will likely be high on the political agenda in September will include the European Climate Law\, the 2030 Climate Target Plan and the Just Transition Fund.\n  \nRegistration Link \n \nWorkshop Material(s)\nAgenda\n\n \nUpcoming Events\nStakeholder Consultation: CBAM in an International ContextApril 22 @ 15:00 - 17:00Launch Event – 2026 ETS ReviewApril 23 @ 10:00 - 12:00Launch Event – Carbon Leakage under CBAM and Free AllocationMay 13 @ 10:30 - 12:302026 State of ETS – LaunchMay 20 @ 15:00 - 16:30International Townhall: CBAM in an International ContextJune 23 @ 14:30 - 16:30\n\nPast Events\n2026 Review of EU ETS – Stakeholder meetingApril 1 @ 15:00 - 17:00Launch Event – Policy options for sustainable mobility: the road to decarbonizationApril 1 @ 10:00 - 12:00Quo Vadis ETS: Challenges and SolutionsMarch 23 @ 16:00 - 18:00
