SUMMARY:A just transition to a climate neutral Europe: getting the basis right
DESCRIPTION:This workshop is jointly organised by ERCST and the European Policy Centre. \n\n\n\nThe Paris Agreement sets a clear goal and a direction for the world to become climate neutral in the second half of the century\, if it wishes to stop the warming of the planet beyond 1.5-2oC. The European Commission has put forward a proposal for the EU to become climate neutral by 2050\, which is one of the foundations of the European Green Deal and is currently under discussion.\nThe implications of becoming climate neutral will be felt across society and economy\, across sectors and in the lives of every citizen. While this transition can have overall positive impacts on the environment\, society and economy\, it will need to be managed ensuring equity and social justice. As European Commission works on the details for the Green Deal\, including on the Just Transition mechanism that aims to address the socio-economic consequences of climate change policies\, it is essential to get this right. The transition can only succeed if citizens are participating in the transition and the distributional impacts of climate action are addressed. \n\n\n\nThis workshop aims to facilitate an exchange of views on the issues that are important to understand in achieving a Just Transition towards a climate-neutral European economy and society. Some of the questions that will be discussed are outlined below.\nThe meeting provides a possibility for stakeholders to discuss the ongoing debates and developments at the EU as well as member state level\, but also beyond.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis meeting is by invitation only.\nIf you are interested in participating\, Please send your participation request to Sara Viitanen (s.viitanen@epc.eu) \n \nWorkshop Material(s)\nDraft Agenda\n \nUpcoming Events\nExpert Consultation: Integration of Carbon Removals into the EU ETSOctober 29 @ 10:00 - 11:30State of EU ETS – Kick Off with Advisors Groups and PartnersNovember 4 @ 10:00 - 12:00Launch Event : Review of the EU ETS – Free allocation investment conditionalityNovember 4 @ 15:00 - 17:00Launch of Product Standards Paper in Antalya (COP31)November 9 @ 08:00 - November 20 @ 17:002027 State of EU ETS ReportDecember 15 @ 10:00 - 12:00\n\n \nPast Events\nLedger-Based Carbon Accounting for CBAM and Lead Market – A Learning Workshop with ERCSTOctober 27 @ 10:00 - 12:00Stakeholder Meeting: Free allocation conditionality in the EU ETS – Review of the EU ETSOctober 20 @ 15:00 - 17:00Expert Consultation: State of the EU CBAMOctober 12 @ 15:00 - 17:00
