SUMMARY:Reporting on the Impacts of Response Measures: a case study on Ghana
DESCRIPTION:This webinar is part of the project “Reporting on the Impacts of Response Measures – a case study on Ghana”\, jointly organised by ERCST and the Environmental Protection Agency of Ghana.\nERCST and the EPA in Ghana have been working together on identifying\, measuring and analysing the impacts of the implementation of response measures in Ghana. To foster capacity building and stakeholder participation\, virtual workshops are being organized at each stage of the development of the case study.\nThe two previous workshops focused on introducing the project\, identifying the most important sectors to the Ghanaian economy\, as well as analysing which of these sectors are potentially vulnerable to international response measures.\nThis workshop will start with the presentation of the research on the relevant response measures for the 12 identified vulnerable sectors to the Ghanaian economy. A presentation of the sustainability issues and reactions to ERCST’s presentation from the cocoa and oil sectors in Ghana will follow\, as well as from two important trading partner countries to Ghana.  Lastly\, ERCST will moderate a roundtable discussion with the attendees.\n  \nThis meeting is under Chatham House Rules \nParticipation to this event is by invitation only. In July the European Commission is expected to roll out 12 policy proposals as part of its “Fit for 55 package”. \nWhile decarbonization of electric power has progressed due to various incentives as well as technological developments\, setting the right framework conditions that would ensure industry put on a decarbonization pathway will be one of the main challenges  to 2030 and beyond.  The EU ETS\, sustainable finance\, CBAM\, hydrogen\, renewable energy\, as well as other parts of the Fit for 55 package will be released in July 2021 and will play a critical role. \nThis session is intended as a roundtable discussion\, with short interventions and a strong debate\, and will specially look at a number of questions: \n\nWhat can be expected from the “Fit for 55” package with respect to industrial decarbonization?\n\nWhat is missing from what it is known now ? Are there other measures we need beyond carbon pricing\nWhat role do you see for carbon pricing?\n\n\nElectrification and the role of different technologies in industrial decarbonization by 2030 and beyond?\nWhat are the impacts that the package may have as a result of the transition?\nWhat are the solutions that may address negative impacts?\nHow to best address just transition?\n\nMeeting Structure \n9:30 Welcome and introduction: A.
