SUMMARY:The European Green Deal: State of Play
DESCRIPTION:This meeting is part of a continuous series of meetings organised by ERCST on the European Green Deal. This work stream aims to bring together policymakers and stakeholders on a regular basis to take stock on recent developments\, look ahead to what is in the pipeline\, and discuss the general implementation of the EGD framework.\nThe European Green Deal can be seen as a collection of priorities\, principles and areas where legislative proposals will be produced in the coming years. While the full scope of the EGD is not yet clear\, and many of the policy choices will only be decided upon at a later stage\, a number of policy initiatives have already been unveiled or kicked off in recent months.\nEach of these session will focus on the recent high-level policy developments under the European Green Deal\, and the ‘general sentiment’ of stakeholders on the direction and implementation of the EGD.\n  \nRegistration Link \n \nWorkshop Material(s)\n\nDraft Agenda\nERCST presentation – State of the EGD\nTotal presentation Outlook\nWWF and Poland background\nUpcoming Events\nInternational Townhall: CBAM in an International ContextJune 23 @ 14:30 - 16:30\n\n \nPast Events\n2026 State of ETS – LaunchMay 20 @ 15:00 - 16:30Launch Event – Carbon Leakage under CBAM and Free AllocationMay 13 @ 10:30 - 12:30Launch Event – 2026 ETS ReviewApril 23 @ 10:00 - 12:00

SUMMARY:In conversation with Jacob Werksman - the EU’s international climate policy
DESCRIPTION:During this one-hour conversation\, Jacob Werksman\, Principal Advisor for International Aspects of EU Climate Policy at the European Commission (DG Clima) will shed light on the EU’s international climate policy priorities going into 2021. \nAfter an introductory interview\, Andrei Marcu and Michael Mehling will moderate a Q&A with participants.\n2020 is the year that Parties to the Paris Agreement are to communicate or update their nationally determined contribution(NDC). The EU institutions have already stated their ambition to agree upon and submit an enhanced NDC by the end of the year\, and President Xi Jinping announced in September that China will enhance its NDC\, which many observers attribute in part to the EU’s active climate diplomacy. Moreover\, other Asian countries like South Korea and Japan recently pledged a net-zero target by 2050.\nDue to the ongoing health crisis\, the UNFCCC process has also been severely delayed. COP26\, which was supposed to take place in Glasgow this November\, has been postponed by one year.\nJoin ERCST during this session to discover more about the EU’s international climate policy priorities and what to expect from the UNFCCC process going into 2021.\n  \nRegistration Link \n \nWorkshop Material(s)\nDraft agenda\n\n \nUpcoming Events\nInternational Townhall: CBAM in an International ContextJune 23 @ 14:30 - 16:30\n\nPast Events\n2026 State of ETS – LaunchMay 20 @ 15:00 - 16:30Launch Event – Carbon Leakage under CBAM and Free AllocationMay 13 @ 10:30 - 12:30Launch Event – 2026 ETS ReviewApril 23 @ 10:00 - 12:00
