SUMMARY:A just transition to a climate neutral Europe: getting the basis right
DESCRIPTION:This workshop is jointly organised by ERCST and the European Policy Centre. \n\n\n\nThe Paris Agreement sets a clear goal and a direction for the world to become climate neutral in the second half of the century\, if it wishes to stop the warming of the planet beyond 1.5-2oC. The European Commission has put forward a proposal for the EU to become climate neutral by 2050\, which is one of the foundations of the European Green Deal and is currently under discussion.\nThe implications of becoming climate neutral will be felt across society and economy\, across sectors and in the lives of every citizen. While this transition can have overall positive impacts on the environment\, society and economy\, it will need to be managed ensuring equity and social justice. As European Commission works on the details for the Green Deal\, including on the Just Transition mechanism that aims to address the socio-economic consequences of climate change policies\, it is essential to get this right. The transition can only succeed if citizens are participating in the transition and the distributional impacts of climate action are addressed. \n\n\n\nThis workshop aims to facilitate an exchange of views on the issues that are important to understand in achieving a Just Transition towards a climate-neutral European economy and society. Some of the questions that will be discussed are outlined below.\nThe meeting provides a possibility for stakeholders to discuss the ongoing debates and developments at the EU as well as member state level\, but also beyond.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis meeting is by invitation only.\nIf you are interested in participating\, Please send your participation request to Sara Viitanen (s.viitanen@epc.eu) \n \nWorkshop Material(s)\nDraft Agenda\n \nUpcoming Events\nStakeholder Consultation: CBAM in an International ContextApril 22 @ 15:00 - 17:00Launch Event – 2026 ETS ReviewApril 23 @ 10:00 - 12:00Launch Event – Carbon Leakage under CBAM and Free AllocationMay 13 @ 10:30 - 12:302026 State of ETS – LaunchMay 20 @ 15:00 - 16:30International Townhall: CBAM in an International ContextJune 23 @ 14:30 - 16:30\n\n \nPast Events\n2026 Review of EU ETS – Stakeholder meetingApril 1 @ 15:00 - 17:00Launch Event – Policy options for sustainable mobility: the road to decarbonizationApril 1 @ 10:00 - 12:00Quo Vadis ETS: Challenges and SolutionsMarch 23 @ 16:00 - 18:00
