SUMMARY:Paris workshop - Developing the EU Long-Term Climate Strategy
DESCRIPTION:This workshop will feed into the project “Developing the EU long-term climate strategy” that aims to provide a “roadmap” for the development and delivery of a long-term decarbonisation strategy for the EU. The project itself will deliver two products: A Technical paper and a Policy paper.\nThe Technical Paper will describe all potential choices that can be made in the new long-term climate strategy\, with an in-depth analysis of the trade-offs implied. This will include the main elements that will need to be considered in reviewing the current 2050 Roadmap\, and will also cover the process that should be used in the development and the delivery of the new roadmap.\nThe Policy Paper will present different bundles of inherently consistent set of choices that may serve as basis to build the new roadmap.\nThe workshops that are part of the project will discuss key choices to be made in a new decarbonisation strategy document. This event will feed into the project\, and it is organized in cooperation with the French Direction Générale de l’Energie et du Climat\, of the Ministère de la Transition Ecologique et Solidaire.  A minimum of four other workshops will be held in other EU capitals over the next few months.\nGiven the amount of information and issues for discussion we decided that all workshops will cover certain crucial elements and the general structure. However\, to ensure that an in-depth discussion is possible\, each workshop will focus on a selected number of issues (as identified in the agenda below) which will vary from workshop to workshop.\nThis project is a joint initiative of Bruegel and ERCST/ICTSD\, and is made possible by grants from the Governments of France\, Denmark\, Sweden\, as well as the European Climate Foundation\, Climate-KIC\, ENEL\, EdF and Shell.\n \nFiles\nFinal Agenda\nPresentation

SUMMARY:Kick-off event - 2018 State of the EU ETS Report
DESCRIPTION:This meeting was intended as a brainstorming session with invited stakeholders and policy makers which took stock of the decisions taken on the EU ETS Phase 4 review and brainstormed on the outline and issues to be covered in the 2018 State of the EU ETS Report. \n \nThe 2018 State of the EU ETS Report is a joing effort between ERCST/ICTSD\, Nomisma Energia\, I4CE and the Wegener Centre at the University of Graz.\nThe brainstorm sessions were focussed on three broad topics: \n\nMarket functioning of the EU ETS\nEU ETS and the transition to a low-carbon economy\nCarbon Leakage and competitiveness\n\nFor each topic\, we had a limited number of panellists discussing the main issues and recent developments\, and give their view on what should be covered in the Report. We then proceeded with a roundtable discussion and closed each session with a short wrap up.\n \nFiles\nFinal Agenda
