SUMMARY:Article 6 Community Centre: Library and Road to Glasgow
DESCRIPTION:This meeting is part of a series of webinars which are part of ERCST’s work stream on Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. Our aim is to bring together a broader community\, beyond the UNFCCC negotiators\, which is interested in Article 6.  We hope to catalyse an exchange of information and experiences by organising webinars and hosting an Article 6 Library on our website.\nIn the first part of the meeting\, we will launch our new Article 6 Library which is an effort by ERCST to provide a central source of information where stakeholders can find relevant publications\, presentations and UNFCCC documents. For the second part of the meeting\, we invite a select group of leading Article 6 negotiators to express their views on what are key issues remaining and what are their expectations for COP26 in Glasgow. \nThis webinar will be an opportunity for participants to engage in discussions with leading Article 6 negotiators. \n \nWorkshop Material(s)\nAgenda\nRecording\n \nUpcoming Events\nReview of EU ETS: Advisory Group Meeting on Reaction to EU ETS ProposalAugust 27 @ 15:00 - 17:00Stakeholder Consultation on the Optimization of CBAM De Minimis ThresholdsSeptember 1 @ 15:00 - 17:00Reaction to EU ETS Review ProposalSeptember 7 @ 15:00 - 17:00Informal Dialogue on Article 6September 9 - September 11Launch Event: CBAM in an International ContextSeptember 15 @ 15:00 - 17:00\n\n \nPast Events\nStakeholder Meeting: Proposal for Permanent CBAM Exports SolutionJuly 27 @ 15:00 - 17:00Reaction to EU ETS Review ProposalJuly 23 @ 14:00 - 16:00Managing the EU ETS for Decarbonization – Stakeholder MeetingJuly 1 @ 15:00 - 17:00

SUMMARY:Preparing for the review of the EU ETS - The plan to decarbonize industry while protecting against carbon leakage
DESCRIPTION:This meeting is under Chatham House Rules \nThis meeting is part of a series of webinars which are part of ERCST’s work stream on the revision of the EU Emission Trading System. Our aim is to bring together a group of stakeholders on a regular basis to discuss the most important issues on the table for the EU ETS revision. This webinar will be an opportunity for participants to engage in a discussion on how the ETS can help write the story of industrial decarbonisation\, and how protection against carbon leakage can be ensured throughout phase 4.\n \nSome of the key questions that will addressed during this meeting include: \n\nWhat is required beyond ‘a price on carbon’ for industry to decarbonize?\nWhat is the role of emerging ‘accompanying’ policies that are currently being discussed and implemented\, including carbon contracts for difference\, a consumption charge/climate contribution\, product(ion) standards\, etc; and how do they fit with the EU ETS?\nWhat type and level of public support aimed at decarbonising industry and ensuring the uptake of low-carbon products is necessary\, and what role can the EU ETS play?\nGiven the long investment cycles for industry\, what is needed to ensure investments made in the 20s and 30s will be in line with the 2050 net-neutrality goal as the carbon price alone will not drive these investments during this period?\nHow can the EU provide effective and efficient protection against carbon leakage while decarbonising its industry?\n\n \nWorkshop Material(s)\nAgenda\nERCST presentation – Industrial decarbonisation and Carbon Leakage\nPresentation by A. Ruggiero\, Carbon Market Watch – Industrial climate policy framework\nPresentation by A. SUMMARY:Preparing for the review of the EU ETS - carbon pricing in non-ETS sectors
DESCRIPTION:Registration\nThis meeting is under Chatham House Rules \nThis meeting is part of a series of webinars which are part of ERCST’s work stream on the revision of the EU Emission Trading System. Our aim is to bring together a group of stakeholders on a regular basis to discuss the most important issues on the table for the EU ETS revision. This webinar will be an opportunity for participants to engage in a discussion on the different options to use of carbon pricing in non-ETS sectors\nSome of the key questions that will be addressed during this meeting include: \n\n\n\n\n\nWhich factors/criteria need to be taken into account on deciding which sectors should be subjected to carbon pricing?\nWhat are the different options to implement carbon pricing in non-ETS sectors? Include sectors in current ETS; introduce a stand-alone market-based scheme; or other options?\nWhat are the policy implications of extending the scope of the ETS to non-ETS sectors? How to avoid undermining the orderly functioning of the market? How to take into account other(national) policies to reduce emissions in those sectors?\nWhat are the climate governance implications\, if any\, of introducing an EU carbon pricing mechanism in sectors currently covered by the ESR?\nHow to address potential distributional effects of carbon pricing among the different Member States\, sectors and consumers?\n\n\n\n\n\nGiven its international nature\, both in terms of the activity itself and current efforts to reduce emissions\, how can international maritime emissions best be tackled by the EU\, including through coverage by the EU ETS\, while avoiding international retaliation?\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \nWorkshop Material(s)\nAgenda\nERCST Presentation \nC. SUMMARY:Informal Forum on Implementation of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement - March 2021
DESCRIPTION:This meeting is part of the “Implementation of market and non-market provisions in the Paris Agreement” project\, which aims to create an informal atmosphere\, where the main objective is to explore\, discover\, explain and understand different points of view related to the issues in Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. That is\, to understand the options available to define rules\, modalities and procedures on Article 6 of the Paris Agreement\, as well as the consequences of adopting each option.\nSince 2014\, ERCST has been hosting an ‘informal dialogue’ between negotiations\, informed by a few selected expert. Under the current circumstances\, the dialogue is currently being organised through regularly scheduled webinars. \nThis is a closed meeting.  \nWorkshop Material(s)\nAgenda\nReflection note\nPresentations\nReflections on baseline methodologies and role of host country in Article 6.4 by A.
